A farewell reception will be held Sunday, Aug. 12 at 2 to 4 p.m. at Bishop Heelan High School, 1231 Grandview Blvd., for Sr. Rosalie Erdmann, SLW, retired faculty member, who will be moving to Chicago. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Sr. Rosalie, 90, taught at Bishop Heelan for 28 years, retiring in 2004. She taught in Catholic schools for a total of 53 years. In retirement she has helped with parish work at St. Boniface, volunteered as a Communion minister at Mercy Medical Center and more. She is a known swimmer.

Sister first envisioned her vocation as a nun when she was in fifth grade at St. Joseph Elementary School in Le Mars. A community member of Sisters of the Living Word, she was one of 90 members given permission from Rome to start her community some 60 years ago.

“The number of lives I must have touched in the 53 years I taught and those who touched me is staggering,” Sr. said in a Globe article several years ago. “There’s that idea of knowing you may have helped someone, not to mention growing in your relationship with God. There’s a certain peace in that and a special blessing.”

For those unable to attend, cards are welcome. Mail to Sister Rosalie, 3636 Glenn Oakes Blvd., Sioux City, IA, 51104.
