New Sick Leave Bank Can Help Employees

Sick LeaveBHCS employees needing extra sick leave days for an extended personal illness or disability this school year may benefit from a new “Sick Leave Donation Bank,” a pilot program to support teachers and staff members. 

A total of 23 employees from all schools and the admin office stepped up to donate a total of 77 days to the “sick leave bank” to be used by other employees who have used up their own sick leave due to a serious illness, surgery, injury or pregnancy.  The bank was created through a voluntary sign-up.

“It speaks to the caring spirit of our Catholic-Christian values of the Bishop Heelan School System.” says Yvette Sitzmann, now directing human resource activities in the admin office. Sitzmann says the program, a first for BHCS, will be evaluated this summer about making it a permanent annual program.
