Schools Gain Grants

12 Classroom Grants Support Learning

It’s Merry Christmas for Holy Cross, Mater Dei and Sacred Heart School teachers in the form of 12 Excellence in Education classroom grants totaling $9,227 to benefit student learning. The grants are awarded by the Siouxland Community Foundation to support K-5 teachers in local public and private schools.  

Holy Cross Teachers Receiving Grants

• Danielle Schmitz/Gail Poland: Osmos Systems
• Lisa Froelich/Barb Swanson: Osmos Systems 
• Martina Taylor and Maggie Tillman:  Increasing Literacy Skills 
• Patricia Boggs and Pam Wilmes:  Reading Intervention for Students 
• Anne Funke/Meg Kofmehl: Expanding Math and Science 

Mater Dei Teachers Receiving Grants
• Sarah Jacobs/Shantell Bleeker: Guided Math
• Tabitha Rees/Christine Fitzpatrick: Math Intervention Program
• Luann Freidel: Maker space in Kindergarten
• Amanda O’Hern: Creativity in the Classroom
• Tara Koob: Biographies for Reading Class

Sacred Heart Teachers Receiving Grants
• Connie Collette:  Whole Group Reading Document Camera
• Genie McGregor: Flexible Seating 

The Siouxland Community Foundation recently helped nearly 100 area non-profits raise over $100,000 though Siouxland Big Give, a one day of giving blitz.

The foundation administers over 150 charitable funds, established by donors, and awards nearly 350 grants and scholarships yearly to Siouxland nonprofit organizations and college-bound seniors, (including Heelan seniors.) Its impact is felt in education, arts and culture, health care, the environment, community betterment and more.
