Face Masks and Distancing Boost Safety

In-Person School Starts Aug. 25 for BHCS

School starts Tuesday, Aug. 25 for students at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools who will wear face masks and shields for in-person classroom learning five days a week.

Bishop Heelan High School: Grades 9-12, 8:19 a.m.
Dual Language Academy: Grades K-1, 8 a.m.
Holy Cross–Blessed Sacrament School: Grades 3-8, 7:45 a.m. 
Holy Cross–St. Michael School: Grades K-2, 8:15 a.m. 
Mater Dei–Immaculate Conception School Grades K-4, 8:15 a.m. 
Mater Dei–Nativity School: Grades 5-8, 7:45 a.m. 
Sacred Heart School: Grades K-8, 8:30 a.m. 
In addition to masks, the following rules have been set to curb the spread of COVID-19:
Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing: All students and staff must wash or sanitize hands upon arrival, before and after meals, after bathroom use, after coughing or sneezing, and before dismissal.
Entry screening: Temperatures will not be taken at school. The expectation is they are taken at home.
Physical distancing: Students and staff will maintain a physical distance of 6 feet to the greatest extent possible. Desks/tables have been spaced 3-6 feet apart facing the same direction. Seating charts will be used in all classrooms and areas to keep students in the same workspace each day. 

Cohorting: Staff and students will group in small units whenever possible. 
Arrival and dismissal Student pick-up and drop-off will occur outside the school building.
Signage: Signage will remind everyone of physical distancing and other safety needs.  
Students will bring their own water bottles. Drinking fountains will not be used.
Frequent cleaning will take place for commonly touched surfaces, bathrooms and outdoor play equipment with high-touch surfaces and other areas.

Students will clean their own workspace at the end of the day with wipes/spray bottles.
