Our "Happy Days" Heelan Auction will be broadcast Live on Heelan High School’s Facebook Page Thursday, June 25, due to COVID-19 turmoil.

The 41st annual fundraiser will encourage virtual guests to bid on auction gifts and donate in a “RollPride,”  giving blitz for out-of-town alumni through bidpal.net/HeelanAuction.

The event also will offer special awards. Leonard Gill ‘53 will receive the ‘Crusader of the Year” award and Pat Collins will be honored as “Distinguished Volunteer of the Year.”

Proceeds from the Heelan Auction will benefit teachers’ salaries, according to Dr. John Flanery, BHCS president.

“We all knew our teachers are vital,” Flanery says. “When classes were cancelled this spring, we truly realized the value of our teachers. They quickly worked to connect with students and offer online learning — gaining a whole new level of respect and admiration!”

Before the COVID-19 forced school closures, the 2019-20 school year was already one for the books with the completion of Heelan High’s new O’Gorman Fieldhouse and Heelan’s 70th year anniversary of educating students, Flanery adds.

“We hope to pay tribute to the Heelan class of 2020 which has missed out on many major milestones to cap their senior year,” he says.

Heelan Auction Chair Couples helping to navigate the virtual auction event are: Chris and Joy Bogenrief, Ron and Katie Demers, Dave and Laurie Bentson and Mike and Julie Maas.

Four gifts are now up for bidding before the auction because of summer timing and stay-at-home behavior. The gifts are a June 7-14 Okoboji timeshare, 70-inch Vizio TV, Traeger grill and Claussen's Greenhouse $100 gift card. View and bid on auction gifts at bidpal.net/HeelanAuction.
