Tuition assistance has been adjusted to give BHCS parents a faster picture of student tuition for next school year, and an online “Tuition Estimator” has been created for our website,

“We want to help families budget and know what they will pay,” says Dr. John Flanery, Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools president. “We have created a formula and the tuition estimator to provide clarity for our BHCS families, especially our new families.”

Parents can figure that their tuition will be 7.5 percent of their total income and then check it with a “Tuition Estimator” at estimator. The estimator is similar to one previously used five years ago to assist families.

When parents applied for tuition assistance with the diocese vendor in past years, they have typically waited till June to learn the amount awarded.

“The wait on knowing tuition was too long,” Flanery said. “With 75 percent of BHCS families receiving tuition assistance, change was needed.”

A tuition task force of staff members and parents spent months working on a model to make tuition more affordable and predictable using a formula and the online estimator.

Catholic school education is an investment in the future of a child, Flanery says.

“Our smaller classes, higher test scores and the BHCS mission of faith and service help give our students a lifetime advantage,” Flanery says. “Our goal is to provide an affordable Catholic education to as many students as we can."

BHCS expects to award over $4.2 Million in tuition assistance for the 2020-2021 school year using TADS financial aid assessment service to determine need. Parish support, donor gifts, Monsignor Lafferty Tuition Foundation grants and high school scholarships all help fund aid and ease the cost of a BHCS education.

Says Flanery, "We are grateful to our committee that worked on this project to help our families."
